Germany’s fourth biggest city is one of the most festive and fun-living towns of the whole country. People from Cologne are well known for their cheerful nature, mainly because of the legendary annual carnival. Furthermore, the cathedral city on the Rhine can look back at a history of more than 2,000 years of which many buildings still tell the story. Contrary to the history, Cologne is a very modern and young city. Thanks to a big media industry, Cologne is one of Germanys leading media cities and host of a variety of important international fairs (for example, the gamescom and the anuga).

Culture and objects of interest

Behind the Münster in Ulm, the Cologne Cathedral is the second highest church building in Europe at 157.28 meters tall. The sight from the top is amazing and offers a view over the whole city of Cologne. In 1996, the cathedral was awarded with the UNESCO World Heritage status. Additionally, many interesting museums are located in Cologne. The Römisch-Germanischen Museum and the legendary Chocolate Museum are always worth a trip — the latter not only for chocolate lovers. Cologne is also one of the leading centers of the worldwide art trade and exhibit a lot of possibilities for art lovers (for example the Kunstmuseum Ludwig, the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum or the Museum für angewandte Kunst). Due to the close proximity to the Rhine, the weather is mostly pleasant in Cologne. A relaxing boat trip on a beautiful day is highly recommended.

Cologne exhibits several upscale five stars hotels. The Excelsior Hotel Ernst and the Hilton Cologne are particularly worthy of mention. Not only do both of them impress with excellent and luxurious furnishing, but also because of the central location close to the cathedral and the downtown area. The very modern Radisson Blu Hotel is convenient for fair visitors thanks to its close location to the fair area.
